FOOD WASTE

Three ways you can stop food waste at home are Plan your shopping,
Check the dates and Freeze. First of all, you can menu plan your meals
for a week. Check the ingredients in your fridge and cupboards, then
write a shopping list for just the extras you need. Take your list and buy
loose fruits and vegetables instead of pre-packed so you can buy exactly
the amount you need. Next, you can be aware of the meaning of date
labels: “use by” means that the food is only safe for consumption until the
indicated day; “best before” indicates the date up until when the product
retains its expected quality. Food products are still safe to consume even
after the indicated “best before” day. Finally, if you only eat a small
amount of food, then freeze it when you get home and take it out a few
hours before you need it. Likewise, batch cooked foods so that you have
meals ready for those evenings when you are too tired to cook.
In conclusion, these three methods can effectively stop food waste.

  1. So many people confuse the "best before" and "use by" labels. Also I am guilty of throwing out food that is still safe to consume. People should be more aware and know how to handle food better. It is interesting to know that these three easy ways could resolve a huge problem.
